SITAM
SITAM is the zone-based pricing system in force in the greater Milan area that includes most public bus companies in the Province of Milan.
The SITAM pricing system starts out of the 90/91 trolley bus line that surrounds the Milan urban fares area. The area around Milan is divided in concentric circular rings splitted in "zones", "semi-zones" (half zones) and Areas (group zones).
Extraurban and cumulative tickets and travel cards are priced progressively according to the distance travelled.
Ticket Prices
Ticket prices are determined based on the number of semi-zones crossed to reach the destination. This principle applies to ordinary tickets, 2x6 weekly tickets and monthly student season tickets.
Other intercity and cumulative ticket types are priced by “area”, in other words by groups of zones.
These areas are as follows:
- Small Area
- Medium Area
- Large Area
- Plus 1 Area
- Extraurban Area
- Outer Area
