Environment
The primary commitment of the ATM group is to give the city not just an efficient service but, more importantly, an eco-compatible service.
The progressive reduction of the environmental impact of local public transport and the promotion of sustainable mobility with the general public have allowed us to become nationwide leaders of urban transport using clean energy.
Road transport leaves a big footprint on the environment since it is one of the top sources of nitrous oxides, carbon monoxide and other climate-altering gases. Still, local public transport is the most tangible expression of sustainable mobility and many of the resources set aside in the Business Plan are invested in this.
In order to reduce air and noise pollution we have put the following practices and investments in place:
- fleet renewal
- revamping metro trains
- introducing bike sharing and expanding car sharing
- reviewing braking systems
- streamlining water consumption
- streamlining energy consumption
We are also undergoing environmental standard certification, with the adoption of UNI EN ISO 14001 and we have rolled out an Environmental Management System.
Still now, in Milan more than 50% of car travel is for a distance of less than 4 kilometres, with 30% less than 3 kilometres, average 1.21 passengers per vehicle. Which is why our company is committed to supplying an efficient, eco-compatible service which also supports the anti-pollution initiatives promoted by the Municipality of Milan.
This means knowing and understanding our customers’ expectations, translating their needs into services that adapt to their requirements, study the environmental impact of these and constantly improve them.
