What is the Gratta&Sosta Parking Scratchcard?
These are paper SostaMilano tickets available in two formats (1 or 2 hours) for each of the areas with metered parking. To activate the card scratch away the year, month, day, hour and nearest ten minutes to the time you parked your car. The ticket must be clearly displayed on your car dashboard.

What are electronic payment cards?
These are electronic cards which must be activated when you park and deactivated when you leave the parking area. Cards cost € 100 and allow you to pay for the exact amount of time you park for a minimum of 30 minutes. The card must be clearly displayed on your car dashboard.

What is SostaMilanoSMS?
SostaMilanoSMS is a service allowing you to pay for parking by sending a text message from your mobile phone.

How can I activate SostaMilanoSMS or ask for information on the service?
To activate SostaMilanoSMS or ask for information you can go to any ATM Point or authorized outlet, contact the ATM Freephone Number 800.80.81.81 or visite the SostaMilanoSMS website (Italian only). To use our services you will need to purchase a SostaMilanoSMS card worth €10, €30 or €50 and request a sticker to put on the windscreen of the car from an ATM Point or authorized outlet. The 12-character PIN (e.g. A00123456789) can be activated by calling our Freephone Number or on the SostaMilano website. During the registration process you will be supplied with a PIN Portfolio and a password: these codes are needed to manage all SostaMilanoSMS services by phone or over the internet.
Store them with care because they are essential for all future activities.

What is the PIN Portfolio?
The PIN Portfolio is your user code, which together with your password allows you to access our services from the website or through our Call Centre.

What is a MINI PIN?
A MINI PIN is a 6-character code which can be used to replace the 12-character PIN activated when you register for the service. The MINI PIN can only be used in text messages.

What is the difference between my PIN and the top-up PIN?
There is no difference, their structure is identical. However, your PIN, which you register and which is associated with your licence plate(s), allows you to pay for parking whilst the top-up PIN is only used to add value to your card.

If I do not receive an answer to my activation message within a few minutes, what should I do?
Please check the number you sent the message to and the message format. Please store the message containing the correct information since you may need to use this to dispute parking fines.

Please send us a new text message with the correct information and format within 10 minutes.

What is “closed parking”?
Closed parking is an option allowing you to specify and pay for the amount of time you intend to park from a minimum of 1 hour to a maximum of 5 hours. If you choose this option the cost of parking for the length of time specified will be deducted from your account even if you actually park for a shorter time.

What is “open parking”?
Open parking is an option allowing you to specify and pay for the exact amount of time you park. You will need to send a text message to activate parking and another to deactivate parking.

What happens if I don’t deactivate the parking service?
Credit will be deducted from your account until the end of the metered time slot in the area where you have parked. For example: you activate payment for parking at 5.30 pm in an area which requires payment from 8 am to 7 pm at the cost of € 1.20 per hour. You only park for 45 minutes, costing a total of € 0.90, but forget to deactivate payment. At 7 pm payment is automatically suspended and € 1.80 will be deducted from your account

How do I find out how much credit I have left?
The system tells you how much credit is left every time you activate/deactivate parking. If you register on the website you can also check your credit, your top-ups and how much you spend on parking.

What should I do if I can’t find the sign displaying the code for the parking area?
You can use the code for an adjacent area, but please ensure that you check the parking regulations on the vertical signs, making sure that the time slots and costs are identical.

Is payment always by the hour or, as shown on the signs, are there flat rate charges for several hours (e.g. events at the Meazza Stadium/Fiera, holiday pricing in the centre, evening prices)? If so, how should I format my text message?
The special flat rate prices for several hours shown on vertical signs are also valid if you pay for parking using the SostaMilanoSMS system. You can use both the open parking and closed parking formats to send a text message. In both cases the system will automatically apply the cheapest rate.

Can I use the SostaMilanoSMS system to pay for park and ride car parks?
No. The system can be used to pay for parking only in the areas marked by blue lines in the City of Milan.

If I have several PINs can I move credit from one card to another?
Yes, but only if you deactivate the PIN from which you wish to transfer credit.
